Garbage Collection
Garbage pickup is provided by Tripoli-Readlyn Sanitation Agency.  Curbside collection is on Monday and Thursday mornings. If a holiday falls on a Monday or Thursday, garbage will only be picked up once that week (however the next time garbage is picked up you will be allowed two 32 gallon containers or equlavent).  Beginning July 1, 2007 residents will be allowed a 32 gallon container of garbage per pick up day.  Garbage will only be picked up if it is in a 32 gallon container with the lid firmly attached.  Anything over the 32 gallon limit will require a sticker, which may be purchased at City Hall, the Tripoli Market, Tripoli Public Library, Veno's Pizza, Guppies on the Go and the Hub.  Stickers are $1.50 per bag.  Garbage related questions can be answered by calling City Hall (882-4801). See the "Water Bills" section below for information on regular billing for garbage.

Recycling
For your convenience, the City has recylcing containers located at 102 1st Street N.E. (white building).  These recycling bins are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

There are now 8 divided areas for you to drop off recyclables.  They are divided up as follows:  milk jugs only, all other plastics, unsorted office paper, newspaper, magazines, tin cans, chipboard, and cardboard.  A separate container beside the recycling building will be used for all other plastics.  This container should be used for #1 clear, #2 colored, #3, #4, #5 and #7 plastic.  All of these containers must be cleaned and have the lids removed.  Most lids are not recyclable, so please dispose of them in your home trash.  Dumpsters outside the building will remain for corrugated cardboard (this is a “sandwich-like” material that will crush if stepped on).  Again, we ask that you break down and flatten the cardboard boxes so more items can fit into the container.

The slots in the building will be for the remaining recyclable materials.  Chipboard is a single layer material that will not crush if stepped on (examples are cereal boxes, pop and beer cartons, cracker boxes, tissue boxes, chipboard egg cartons, etc.).  Just like with the cardboard, please break down and flatten the boxes so that more can fit into the container.  Separate slots for magazines and newspapers will be provided.  The flyers and coupon sheets that are included in the newspaper should be put in the newspaper bin.  There will be a separate slot for milk jugs.  All milk jugs must be rinsed, and again have the lids removed.  The unsorted office paper bin may have white and colored paper put in it, along with envelopes.  In reference to the tin cans, again we ask that the cans be rinsed, and the lids and labels removed.

The recycling center will no longer accept glass containers or grocery bags (paper or plastic).  We also cannot accept Styrofoam (including styrofoam egg cartons, salt bags, feed/seed bags, wax cartons, shrink wrap, five gallon plastic pails, gift wrapping paper, shredded paper, oil containers, batteries of any kind, and fluorescent or incandescent tubes/bulbs.

If you have any questions regarding recycling, please feel free to contact city hall at 882-4801, or talk to one of the city employees.

Yard Waste
Tripoli has open burning of yard waste (sticks, wood, cardboard or paper) on Wednesday's and Saturday's throughout the year.  We ask that you keep your neighbor's comfort and weather conditions in mind when burning.  Burning is not allowed on city streets, only on private property.

Water Bills
The City bills for water, sewer and garbage on a monthly basis.  Bills go out the 10th of each month and are due without penalty by the 30th of that month.  After the 30th, until the 10th of the following month, there is a 10% penalty (with a $5.00 minimum penalty) for unpaid bills.  All bills are due within 30 days of billing.  For your convenience, two locked drop boxes are available for payment of water bills.  One is in the front door of City Hall, and the other is located just inside City Hall.  There is a $80 utility deposit due when the water is put into a new customer's name.  Questions concerning water bills may be directed to City Hall.

Building Permits
Building permits are required for all construction within city limits.  The City contracts with Bremer County Building and Zoning for these services.  Contact Doug Bird's office at 319-352-0332 or go to their website at www.co.bremer.ia.us/new/building&zoning.htm
